Asset Accountant

The Asset Accountant will be responsible for supporting the work functions within the Asset Accounting work group, which will include but is not limited to: analyzing accounts, preparing and entering journal entries, reconciling control and subsidiary accounts, preparing financial reports, project unitization and preparation of Capital vs. Expense advisories.
Maintain a consistent list of units of property in conjunction with the FERC Uniform System of Accounts.
Coordinate the flow of accounting information between the Finance Department and other areas of the company and the ATC Record-keepers.
Allocate charges, post journal entries, and assist in monthly and annual closing process
Understand utility plant accounting, including capitalization criteria, construction project life cycle, utility depreciation practices, cost estimates and cost recovery concepts.
Support project reporting (e.g. track progress, prioritization, project unitization, and staffing analysis)
Support external financial reporting process
May be called upon to serve before, during, and after a Transmission Emergency Response Plan (TERP) event; such event may require performing functions that are outside the scope of your regular job.
Demonstrate compliance with ATC's Code of Conduct, all company policies and procedures, and all laws and regulations that govern ATC

Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Experience:
1-3 years of progressive experience in an accounting role.
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, spreadsheet, word processing, general ledger and accounting systems).
The candidate must possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail and organization / planning ability.
Excellent written and oral communication skills along with the ability to work effectively in a team environment is critical.
Prior experience in accounting for regulated entities, understanding of construction diagrams and engineering terminology, and a continuous improvement mindset are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Executive, administrative or clerical position in which employee is primarily involved with sedentary work, including keyboarding.
Requires occasional lifting objects 10 to 15 pounds and/or light physical activity including bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, reaching, walking, standing and working on irregular surfaces.
